This contemporary ceramic artwork is made by one of the famous ceramics artist “Shohreh” by using ceramics in radical ways to reshape the medium. She is inspired by the ancient craft and its traditions. Her works push the boundaries of what ceramics works can be allowing us to witness the sheer versatility of the medium.
About the artist:
Shohreh was born in 1980. She graduated from the Art University in Tehran – Iran. She has been active in the field of pottery and ceramics since 2000. In recent years she has expanded her ceramics to include a production range of illustrated pots. The skills involved in a more commercial range proved quite different to those she had developed over the years doing studio pottery.
She could expand her illustrations to the inside and outside of pots, telling stories around the pieces. She could even use multiple pieces to capture different parts of a scene and create a narrative across a collection of different pots. It is a laborious and painstaking process printing her line drawings and then hand-painting washes of colour.
