The People Who Hold Us
I began with the thought that we do not belong to everyone, and not everyone belongs deeply to us. Robin Dunbar wrote about the small circles that shape human connection, and I was drawn to the first circle, the few people who stay close even when they are not physically present. In the image, two small figures rest in a large open hand. They are separate, each with their own posture and silence, yet they share the same fragile ground. The dark background makes the hand feel like a small island of trust. I wanted this work to ask who really carries us through life. Maybe our land is not only a place. Maybe it is made of the people who hold us without owning us.
